Literature Text

Ok boys and girls, now that I've got 100 stories here in DA, I'm gonna go ahead and make a small 101 class of TG/TF writers (including myself) and writers in general as well.

Because I'm someone who hates failing at the same thing more than once, I enjoy making notes of myself and other writers, pointing out their (and my own) strengths and weaknesses.

You see, I strongly believe that, when you write a story, a resume, an essay, a note, a message or anything of the sort... you put a little piece of yourself into that text.

That story reveals your style, your tastes, your likings, who you met, who you like, who you hate... most times,  even what you felt while writing it.

Of course, writing something that you don't like will most likely end up as something that's not at the same level than writing a story you enjoy.

So, for all those writes out there, inside DA and out, if you ever want to learn the secret of writing a good novel, or coming up with an interesting plot, well, sorry to say, there ain't no secret.

If you go for the theory and begin planning ahead and trying to figure out how you'll write it, and spend hours debating whether or not you should write about it... don't do that and just write already.

Just let it flow through you, if you can't come up with anything, just write about things that have happened around you, about things that you like or dislike, an idea will come up eventually.

Oh, and while I'm at it; ever had writers block?, that dreadful event that no one would like to receive, where your brain is stuck in a blank page and you can't even think of a word of ink to cover that shameful white sheet of paper.

If you ever find yourself with a writers block, the only advice I can give you is that everyone has their own way of dealing with it.

In my case, I just turn the computer off, go out for a ten minute walk, come back, eat and take a shower; then, I glare at the empty page for two seconds, and write the first three random words that come into my mind.

After that, I just try making a continuation to it.

Either way, back to the topic at hand.

Pointing the whites, blacks and grays of those writers I've read here on DA.

First of; dragon8writer.

Yep, you could blame him for inspiring me into joining DA in the first place, I actually enjoy his stories quite a lot; he specializes in male to female TG, but can also come up with rather interesting stories.

-The whites:

If I were to try and point out all the small details and little things that make him a good writer, I'd run out of paper; so I'll just try to point out the most obvious ones.

Firstly, for all the texts I've read so far, his strongest kind of stories are those that involve TG; being at its peak when referring to guy to woman TG; but he can also write about the other way around really well.

Even though he tries to conceal it, almost all his stories have a slight tone of... lust painted into them; some are obvious, others are subtle; but one thing for sure is that I enjoy how well he can hide emotions and feelings on the background.

He also enjoys narrating on 3º person more often than 1º, and the fact that he updates with new stories rather often is another plus for him.

-The blacks:

I can't really come up with a negative point, however, I can point out some habits he tends to use while writing stories.

I've noticed that, whenever a guy is turning into a female, his choice of words are mostly the same "slenderize" "flatten" "push out" and "moan" are words that are almost found in all her works that involve such TG, (rather ironic that I'm saying this, considering that my vocabulary is not even half of hers).

-The grays:

Grays..., things that're neither good nor bad.

I find it a bit interesting how easily he can interpret a small child's point of view.

As another point, I find it sometimes hard to follow the stories, perhaps it's just me, but it feels as if he skips parts every now and then; hence cutting off the context in some occasions.

Second on the list MalAgua:

He might not be as famous as other writers, and he's started not so long ago; however, in this short time, I've seen him improve his stories in way more than a tenfold; I'm rather honored to be able to claim that I've helped him as well as he helped me.

-The whites:

The originality of his stories are something that caught my attention immediately; even when the writing wasn't that good, the plot was all too attractive and hooked me up with just one chapter.

He is consistent on series, I'd might add it's his forte; short stories don't seem to appear much in his gallery.

Also, his depth of perception for the emotions of his characters is stunning, you can almost feel them yourself while reading the stories, it's almost as real as if actual people had to go through them.

Meaning he's better at 1º person stories rather than 3º.

-The blacks:

As all new writers, he needs to practice on his grammar and verb tenses; and he sometimes I'd advice he'd re-read his story as a whole, cause sometimes it feels every paragraph is referring to something different.

Another negative point would be that, every now and then, he uses several words that say the same thing, somewhat destroying the flow of the whole story.

Lastly, it may not be much of a negative point, and he's got his own troubles to handle, however, I'm always left wanting to read more of his stories when he doesn't seem to be updating so often.

-The grays:

I find it amusing how easily he can become enticed with his own stories; even while reading them, it's easy to tell that there are a lot of places that he's written something he didn't plan.

Those sort of things most times end up as the good sort of surprise.

Third would be majorkerina:

Mistress of zappy and adored by other writers to the point they made her a fan-club of her own.

Even though I haven't really read enough of her work, what I have read has always been something enjoyable to the very end.

-The whites:

I find her strength in speed tf/tg, within ten lines she seems to be able to describe the transformation of three people all together, and still make you feel not a detail has been left out.

Her narrations seem to be pushed towards a visual kind of situation, it's rather easy to see the images as you read the story; it might seem somewhat far-fetched, but I can feel she's got a lot of influence from comics, manga and anime beforehand.

As a third good point, I'd say that her way of ending stories feels almost as if it's in a level worthy of epic; she seems to understand the importance of an ending of a story, and somehow manages to raise the bar of the whole plot to an all new level just as she ends the story.

-The blacks:

As mentioned earlier, it's unfortunate, but I haven't read enough of her stories to pin-point a flaw she repeats often.

Being a seasoned writer as she is, her flaws are not only small, but also vary on the stories.

-The grays:

I can't really come up with something about her stories that could be defined as gray; however, I do feel that every now and then she seems to commit a slip on the plot.

Sometimes it makes it more interesting, sometimes it doesn't.

Fourth Ravnicrasol

My younger brother, even though we live under the same roof, and I already kinda knew his flaws beforehand, I find it amusing to write about him.

-The whites:

He's got a shitload of chapters of a couple series he's written, the concept is very original, and the technique of description is very much like my own, though he needs to polish it quite something.

It's pretty obvious he enjoys fantasy stories and fights; it might not seem like it, but the little bastard can come up with some seriously complicated explanations for the events within his stories.

-The blacks:

Well, first off, he hasn't uploaded anything new in a year or so; and right now he's too busy taking care of his group to write anything (or so he claims)

Second, even though he's got plenty of lines of text stored up in his gallery, his technique sucks in levels all to hard to explain, however, it's most likely because it's one of his first stories.

Sadly, he's continued writing his stories, and improved them greatly, but he doesn't seem interested in uploading them into DA; so it's a bit frustrating.

-The grays:

His tendency to always have a card up his sleeve is both vexing and interesting; mostly because, when shown, the reader is left stunned and surprised.

Fifth Me, TGFWritter:

Making a critique about myself is a bit tougher than it seems, so don't complain for the flaws.

-The whites:

I feel my forte's inside the action section; I find most of my work having some scene where there's movement, a fight or the sort.

I'm better at 1º person narration rather than 3º, however, it's something I'm trying to fix.

As for what my DA gallery can be witness of is that I've got plenty of TG and rather barely any TF when I've always felt a bit more compelled to TF.

But I feel my strongest point is within the imagination department; I find it really easy to come up with new stories and plots.

-The blacks:

Even though I might be good at starting stories, it's not that easy to continue, even less end it.

I also feel I repeat the same words a bit too often in all my stories "sigh" "shook his head" "said" "lengthened" "grew"... it's something that becomes obvious once you read several stories; my vocabulary isn't that extensive.

My lack of improvement is somewhat frustrating as well, despite how many stories I write, I feel that right now I'm *stuck* with my current skill, and for what I can tell it's not that great to begin with.

-The grays:

My lack of vocabulary is complemented with the details of my descriptions; I always like painting the scene with my words, not just the characters, but their surroundings as well.

Lastly, I'd point out that I tend to make a collage out of things, I take little pieces from that which I've read, seen, heard, learnt so far, and combine it to make new things; it's most likely the reason as to why it's easy for me to begin things.

I'd enjoy writing more about other writers here on DA, however, I haven't read enough of their works as to have enough of a grasp to make a proper opinion; so maybe I'll write about them once I've written 200 stories.

Hope this has been helpful for you, and that you've enjoyed it as well.
A special because it's right after my story #100

:icondragon8writer: :iconmalagua: :iconmajorkerina: and :iconravnicrasol: Who, in their own way helped me out (be it directly or indirectly)

I'll write about other writers in some other time.

Quite amusing, if I do say so myself. Hopefully I shall be considered one of the "Great Men" of writing, yet is seems like a mere dream than a reality. If you are interested, I have written a story in tribute to your earlier writing, "The Facility". I think it is quite spectacular, yet that is my own opinion. Please read it if you have the time. Also check out the first chapter of Swordplay. I'll be uploading a new chapter every Thursday, so expect one soon. This story I will turn into a book once finished, but am still in the process of writing, so any tips on where it can be improved are appreciated. Sorry for dragging on.
