This is mainly some notes for creating a TG/TF story, read it or comment it, if you hate it don't take it

++The main objects

They're the two things that're always needed in a TG/TF story, they're the following:

-The target; our victim or victims that'll be changed someplace throughout the story; he/she/it usually is characterized because he/she/it will somehow be related (most cases, not always) to either someone who is related somehow to the catalyzer or is directly related to it.

-The catalyzer: it's what triggers the change, be it a magic stone, an injection of nanites (nanobots), a wish, a changing ray, a spell or anything of the sort, it can even be due to spontaneous TG/TF without any need for explanation; when the character enters in contact with the catalyzer, transformation usually begins immediately, though there are several versions that choose to begin latter on.

++Angle:

The point of view.

-First person: there are cases in which the story develops directly from the main character's point of view; this vies the narration a rather personal touch, as it's thought that whoever wrote this is the one who went through the changes.

-Third person: the most common, this one has the advantage that the author can directly describe what the different characters think and feel throughout the story, it's also the most used in series.

-Second person: the direct hit for the reader, you put them right into the story; this kind has the advantage that you make the one reading it feel directly related to what's going on, though it's never been in anything else but short stories.

++Before the change:

What happens before the change, duh

-Nonexistent: sometimes the author decides to either start the story while or shortly after the changes, to latter on reveal some of the main character's past if the story has any actual intention of lengthening itself.

-Short: there's barely any introduction to the character and his surroundings, most of these cases are when the protagonist lives in a time/place/era supposed to be similar to our own, though there are always exceptions; in these cases, the changes take place soon after the initiation of the story.

-Extended: the most usual one for stories with greater length, the protagonist and his/her/its surrounding life are revealed and explained; when the changes strike, most of the times it's got a concrete cause or story behind it, spontaneous TG/TF in these kind of stories are very rare if not existent.

++Contact:

How the protagonist enters in contact with the catalyst, causing the change.

-Non existent: merely a spontaneous change, no real reason behind it.

-Accident: in these cases, it's most usual that the protagonist has no relation to the catalyst whatsoever, however, due to a prank of fate (the writer) he/she/it enters in contact with the catalyzer for a brief moment, even though the odds hadn't been that great to begin with.

-Discovery: the main character or someone close by finds something (or someone) with abilities (or technology) that's soon tested (in a voluntary manner or not) on our protagonist, causing the change.

-Powers: the main character (or someone related) has special powers (or just magic) that allow him/her/it eventually change the protagonist (even if it's to him/her/itself) into something else.

-Curse: or a magic spell, the main character (usually accompanied) enters an area or place that contains a spell/disease/curse... that triggers changes on him or the whole group.

-Prank: for one reason or the other, the side characters (most of the times, can also be the main one) make a prank on the main character (or someone else) ending up changing him/her/it/they into something else; though there's also the chance of a backfire, hence punishing the original delinquents.

-Punishment: the main character get's cursed, zapped, tested on or other due to something he/she/it did, most of the times it's stealing or because of a prank made in the past, the ending result being clearly for the punished to be embarrassed (or become a helper/slave of the affected one)

-Experiment: the main character is chosen to become (most of the times unwillingly) a test subject for being experimented upon; most of the time he/she/it is released after either the change or after being drugged/cursed, making the change happen latter on; also, there are a few stories in which the main character is the one to experiment on others

-Meeting: the main character meets someone that in a direct or indirect manner ends up changing him/her/it.

-Poisoning: the protagonist ingests a substance (based on magic, science or something else) that triggers the change.

++Causes:

The catalyst to put it bluntly, the reason why our character will transform, there are several themes that're the most used in these cases.

-Magic: a curse, a spell, an item... any of these can trigger a change; were someone changed due to magic reasons, it's most common for longer narrations to include mythical creatures or more sources of magic than just one as the story goes on.

-Science: nanobots, raygun, gene splicing... causes that're supposed to become real eventually, when technology has reached such point; in these versions, either the technology is widely known to the public and even to a commercial level, or alien, or it's a test under top secret basis.

-Not known: this one is also quite common, as the changes are barely explained enough to be categorized, things such as drinking some weird substance or getting a wound when touching something they shouldn't touch, this kind of catalyst mostly appear in short stories that won't form a longer narration.

++Sensations during change:

This is usually what the writer describes during the changes, though in the case of being changed in an instant, this mostly wont apply.

-Painful: the victim suffers greatly due to the changes he/she/it is going through, with bones reshaping, muscles tearing and reforming, brain shrinking/expanding; most of the times the author saves him/her self the trouble of having to describe how this goes on, so the main character is knocked out due to the pain, to latter on wake up already changed.

-Neutral: the changes go by with barely any notice to the protagonist, though it might sometimes be represented as an itch or a tingling sensation, our character doesn't realize what's going on till he/she/it has made visual contact our touched someplace in their bodies that's changed or is changing.

-Pleasurable: the changes promote a usually arousing sensation in our character, making he/she/it respond in kind and most of the times continue encouraging the transformation; but it's not always expressed in an erotic manner, as it might as well develop in a sensation of comfort with their new body or even a desire to test it out (see "Aftermath" for details)

++Changing into:

The thing one is turned into.

+Purely TG:

-Female: the most common one, the male character's gender is changed into that of a woman.

-Male: not so common, but not rare either, a female is changed into a man.

-Herm: very rare, the male/female is changed into a herm (which is a mix of both).

-She male: also very rare, a female with breasts yet male genitalia.

-He female: the rarest, a man with a vagina.

+Purely TF:

-Slightly anthro: just the ears and/or tail, not much else.

-Anthro: a human with animal parts, such as fur and a muzzle, their hands are mostly human.

-Fury: almost animal, not that distinguishable from an anthro, though their hands and feet are less human and they tend to be of a slightly wider range of sizes than an anthro.

-Non-morphic: completely animal, not that common, but not so rare; it's usually used in short stories.

-Centaur: quite rare, with the nonmorphic quadrupedal part bellow, and either anthro or human part above, the most used are usually wolf, lion or horse.

+TF and TG:

-Age play: the character is changed in age and maybe in other aspects as well, being most likely turned to either a TG with ageplay or an anthro; most of the times is age reversal, it's extremely rare to find an age change that involves getting older.

-Mix: TG and TF for the main character, quite common, most of the times turned into an anthro female of some sort, though it's not rare to find a female to male story or a change that ends in nonmorphic.

-Inanimate: dolls, toys, even furniture or a statue, the protagonist is changed into an object rather than a living being; most of the time they keep their capability of hearing and seeing, though it isn't common to take away both at the same time.

+Species:

The most used species for a TF are the following:

-Fox, pokemon/digimon, wolf (or any other sort of canine), cat, bunny, cow, lion (mainly a large feline), horse, dragon, snake, bird (eagle or hawk usually) and mythological creatures (aside from dragon, like mermaid).

++Aftermath:

How they react to the change, what happens after the transformation.

-Not there: many short stories choose to cut the narration as the final changes go through; in case it's actually part of a series of stories, then the next chapter will mostly start a while after the change had happened and not immediately after.

-Only physical: the character finds him/her/itself with the new form, and keeps most if not all of its former memories and personality; in this particular case, it's most usual for the story to continue, seeing as the character adjust to the new form, or merely changes back.

-Slightly mental as well: the character keeps most of the memories, however, suffers from a distinctive personality change, their new way of thought being almost if not entirely adjusted to the new form; though this version is not that usual as sometimes the memories tend to fight with the new personality, most probably ending with two ways of being.

-Totally mental as well: either their memories were rewritten from almost scratch (also quite likely to have been erased), or their personality is severely changed, giving them a completely different way of being that matches their new form entirely, making it near impossible for the character to either fight the changes, or the new mind; this case is rather common, and most of times ends in a slave kind of attitude, being completely loyal to the master; these stories usually don't last long.

-Reality shift: this kind can be divided in two possibilities; the first would be that the entire reality is changed to adapt itself to the new form of our character, making it impossible to tell what he/she/it was before the change, however, the protagonist keeps his memories in this new world, being most probably the only one who can remember; in the second option, the protagonist also forgets whether or not he/she/it changed at all, or even what he/she/it used to be before, his memories being replaced with new ones to fit this reality.
Short study on TF/TG stories, I know there's still things that don't exactly fit inside here, but it covers the basics and most of the stories

For those who're interested in commissions, check this [link] before sending a me a note.

If you still want to make a commission, use this as a reference; I don't ask money in return, but don't go expecting it to be ready within less than a week, I'll send a PM once I've posted the commission.

And in the off chance I do ask something in return, it won't be money, but rather just a favor or something of the sort

There's a continuation for the series part [link]
