It was dark, there was barely any light, just a small light bulb far down the corridor.

A metallic door opened with a screech, the three blond women carrying guns entered the cell.

Within, Dave lay half conscious, the drug was taking almost full effect on his mind, he could barely speak.

Two of the women brought him up to his feet, and began to drag him as they walked out of the cell and down the corridor; the third one remained behind, aiming her gun at his head at all moments.

"What's with the escort?" he snickered, though no one spoke.

Neither of the three answered, and continued carrying him through the corridors.

He was dragged all the way through what seemed to be an underground complex; there were other guards placed at almost every corner of the facility, and the sheer size of the place seemed incredible.

Within half an hour, they reached two large red doors that were opened before they could even knock; Dave was carried halfway and thrown to the floor as the three amazons now stood beside him, aiming their guns at several places throughout his body, including the head.

"So you're Dave." said a voice form in front of them, the person stood in the darkness, Dave could barely make out the silhouette of his body. "Leave him there."

"Yes, Master." claimed all three escorts as they left without another word.

"Pretty large place you've got here." Dave muttered as he sat on the floor, the room he was in was large enough for there to be at the very least two basketball fields. "All underground I suppose."

"Not of your concern." the man almost spat the words. "You are here because I want you to answer some questions."

"That's it?" Dave seemed somewhat surprised. "I'd have figured you'd put me in a chamber and begin torturing me until I spoke." he paused for a second. "Besides, what could I know that you'd be interested in?"

"Have you ever heard the story about Pandora?" the man spoke.

"The box that doomed the world?" Dave responded. "I think it was something along the lines of the gods being angry and sending a box with all the bad stuff put into it, then there was this..."

"Seems you don't know." a short laugh came from the shadowed figure. "How old are you?"

"Seventeen?" Dave said, not really understanding the man's angle.

"I thought as much." another short laugh came from the man. "I hoped for a moment you actually knew something else." a sigh. "Go figure, the only free shifter doesn't know a thing."

"Only free shifter?" Dave asked. "What the hell are you talking about?"

"Do you know how shifters are born?" the man said, once more taking him by surprise.

"Dunno, like anyone else?" muttered Dave.

"Wrong." came the answer. "Let's see if this freshens up your memory a bit." the figure began to pace about the room, keeping himself entirely in the shadows. "Six thousand years ago, there was no such thing as people with powers, every single human being was as normal as every single other one."

"Wait, what're you talking about?" asked Dave, a bit confused.

"It's the true history I'm talking about." he interrupted Dave. "Either way, around that era, somehow a select few suddenly began to show to have weird powers." he continued. "Each one of these chosen ones had unique powers, one could predict the future, another could transform himself and others into anything, there was one that could read minds, and even one that could control the elements..."

"What does that have to do with now?" asked Dave.

"Those who had powers soon became the rulers of those who didn't." the man continued, ignoring the question. "But greed took over and they began to war among one another in an attempt to set a true ruler, a king of kings if you may." a pause came as the man sat down once more. "The battle was so great that an entire nation became nothing more than dust, yet the one who came out as the victor was none other than the one to carry the original powers of a Shifter."

"So what about it?" Dave insisted.

"That named first shifter had managed to gain victory due to a combination of luck and preparation." once more, Dave's question went ignored. "He had foreseen the possibility of a battle coming up from the very beginning, and he had prepared for it." a short chuckle came out. "He knew that, even if he had the full powers of a perfect Shifter, he was no match for the combined force of all other power bearers, so he manipulated them onto fighting one another while he took advantage of the situation."

"Would you mind going to the point?" Dave muttered. "I might have been kidnapped and drugged, but hell this is boring."

"Silence!" shouted the man, seemingly enraged for a second. "As I was saying, he had won because he had been prepared." he chose to continue, calming down a bit. "However, what he had not foreseen was that no one died in the battle, nor did he actually gain control over any of them." he sighed. "Being as smart as he was, he chose not to impose himself over the others, nor to try and gain control, as it would prove to be his downfall."

"So he won, but couldn't take advantage of that." Dave simplified.

"Yes." the man laughed shortly. "Seeing that it would prove to be impossible to win with just one person, every one of them chose to create an army for themselves." the man continued the story. "They shattered their powers into pieces, and gave the shards to other people."

"Like making an army." Dave responded.

"In a way." a short laugh was included. "It proved to be a near impossible task, but they each gave a piece of their own powers to a group of followers." a short sigh came. "And once more, a second great battle was waged to see who'd become the ruler of the kings." he shook his head. "This time, the shifter proved to be the victor of the battle once again, however, the conditions had changed, he was strong enough to impose his word over the other kings."

"So what about that?" asked Dave. "He suddenly made everyone his enemy?"

"You could say that." the man replied. "He was acknowledged as true king of kings, and even though everyone followed his every command, it soon became obvious that all the other kings were plotting to dethrone him." a pause as he seemed to shift positions on his chair. "But before that could happen, the king of kings came up with a devious plan, weaken further his enemies and make it impossible for him to be defeated."

"And the plan backfired." Dave predicted.

"Indeed." the man agreed. "The king of kings ordered all those with powers to shatter their powers even further, greatly increasing the number of people with powers, but reducing it to something even a normal human could defeat." he chuckled. "Once the order was carried out, all other kings suddenly found themselves dead within a fortnight; the king of kings and his followers had murdered them without the slightest hesitation."

"What then?" asked Dave.

"Then, once all the original kings but one had died, no one could oppose the rule of the Shifter king and his fifty followers." he continued. "But, since the king of kings had shattered his powers that first time, he no longer held the ability to recover his body, so he soon died." he sighed. "His thirty followers took over, and the shifter rule remained." he shook his head. "But it was soon found that they were all cursed."

"Cursed?" Dave muttered.

"Yes, you see, since the time of the second shattering up to the death of the king of kings, a time period of approximately fifty years had passed by." he answered. "Once he died, the remaining shifters chose to lend a hand to one another, and used their powers in one another so it would be impossible for them to die by the pass of time."

"Immortality?" Dave replied.

"In a sense." came the answer. "However, even though they could not die, it also resulted impossible for them to pass on their powers to their children." he laughed. "For you see, the shards that were stored in their body were far too large to be passed on to the next generation." he laughed again. "So while all others could pass on their powers; shifters, even though they too bore children, their powers could never be inherited, never passed on."

"What then?" Dave insisted. "And what does that have to do with the box of Pandora?"

"Let me finish first." he muttered. "For the kings to be able to shatter their powers and spread them among the humans, they fused a small amount of their power into a box." he continued. "That box, when opened, would immediately absorb most of the powers of the one opening it, and then it would throw that into the outside world." he explained. "That which was thrown would split into pieces and drift in the wind until it found a suitable unborn bearer; then, that person would be born with that piece of powers."

"A bit too complex to explain." Dave sighed. "So what about the box?"

"When the thirty shifters found the dilemma they had in their hands, they chose to use the box to shatter their powers so it could be passed on to the latter generation." he stood up again. "However, when the time came to shatter their powers, ten of those shifters betrayed the others, and absorbed most of the shards that had been spread." he laughed as he began to walk closer to Dave. "So you can imagine, just a tiny bit of those powers was able to become so small it could be passed on to their children, but, the remaining ten shifters had gained so much power it was even impossible to actually have a child."

"So what happened to those ten?" Dave inquired, remaining sitting on the floor as he tried to make out the shape of the shadow of the one passing about in the shadows.

"Well, they became immortal kings, and eventually were kicked out and dethroned." the man continued the story. "But the most interesting thing is that, out of the ten, only eight are accounted for nowadays."

"And?" Dave stood up, feeling suddenly threatened.

"Did you know that one of those two missing kings is the one who had vanished with the box?" the man suddenly said. "And that the powers of said king worked through contact or touch?"

Dave suddenly gave a step back as he felt the words hit him a bit too hard. "Impossible." he suddenly spat out. "I'm not even eighteen yet, how the hell can I be one of those missing kings?"

"Well, to bare with such long lives, we kings erase our memories every now and then, just for the sake of living a normal life even if it's just for two or three decades." the man laughed. "I'm not an exception to this, as I only remember things from no more than two hundred years ago."

Dave fell back as he tried to run, the words and realization were too hard to believe, too impossible to think as true.

"No..." he mumbled. "It can't be!"

"Didn't you wonder why your powers grew so much so fast?" the man asked with a smirk. "Don't your powers feel natural and normal?" he laughed. "Haven't you asked yourself why you managed to pull off things in less than a week when others took years if not decades to reach that level?" he laughed some more. "And didn't you even think it odd that you felt you already knew what you had to do from the very start?"

"What do you want from me!?" suddenly shouted Dave, feeling himself cornered.

"So my question is... where's the box?"
