Waking up the next morning resulted harder than what I imagined.

Even when my body didn't really hurt, I felt it was made out of lead or something like that, cause it was really hard to even move.

"Good morning sleepy head." someone greeted me, I felt a soft scaly hand on the side of my face. "Slept well?"

Separating my eyelids, I saw Abigail's deep blue eyes staring back, a soft grin on her face as she kept looking at me, stroking the side of my face as neither moved.

"Either I'm still dreaming, or we somehow got to share the same room." I stated.

"Neither, I just chose to come and see you sleeping." she replied. "I must admit, your ears make you quite cute."

"You not having anything on makes you cute too." I replied, and she blushed furiously as she looked downwards, only to realize I was bluffing.

"Meanie." she hit me on the nose with a flicking finger. "Next time you'll wake up alone."

"You already showered..." I stated, the scent of some kind of herbal soap fresh from her scales and skin as she stood up. "And ate..." I added as I clearly could smell the ham, milk and eggs she had taken as breakfast. "How long have you been up?"

"The question should be how long you've been out." she replied. "It's almost midday, I was wondering if you were in a coma or something." she sighed. "I suggest you shower and change your clothes, I'll take you to the food once you're done."

My stomach grumbled in response, but I tried to ignore it as I opened my briefcase (which had been conveniently placed on a side of the room) and picked up some casual clothes to put on.

I went into the bathroom, which was more or less the same size as the one in my house, and took a shower with extra cold water to snap me out of the hibernation I had been in during the past hours; once done, dry and clothed, I went back out to find Abi sitting in my bed waiting for me.

It took me a couple of seconds, but I noticed the details about the room I had missed last night; it was all of a light bluish kind of color, with a pure white roof and concrete floor; the bed was matrimonial size, and the sheets reminded me of those of a hotel, along with a night table and several pieces of furniture I could use to store clothes in.

There was also a small kitchen, and a balcony that was reached from the dormitory. All in all, the place looked very much like a four star hotel room with a tiny kitchen cramped into it.

"You ready?" Abi asked as she saw me looking around. "For the time being we'll have to go to the food court." she grinned broadly. "You have no idea how cool this place is."

"I can begin imagining." I mumbled as we headed out.

My room was A-3-4-13, placed in a very long corridor with a rather plain looking carpet that stretched all the way from one end to the other; there was a window every twenty four feet or so, and two room doors cramped between window and window.

"Mine is A-3-4-21, I'm on the floor bellow." she stated as we began walking towards the nearest exit. "I followed your scent to your room." she then handed me a card. "That's your room key by the way."

Choosing not to comment, I just followed while we continued down the curved corridor; within minutes, we were on an elevator going downwards to the lobby of the building.

"The numbers on our room represent four things." Abi began to explain as the lift hummed its way down. "The letter is the building; in our case, building A." she continued. "The first number is the tower, 3; the second number is the floor, and the next two numbers are the room."

"Is everything numbered that way?" I asked.

"Most things, yeah." she sighed.

The lift came to a halt, and the doors opened, and I almost gasped in shock as I saw the entrance of the building.

The whole first floor looked like some casino without the machines slots, a massive space with barely walls or columns that stretched more than far enough for several dozen basketball fields to easily fit inside. Every couple hundred feet, there would be a shaft of glass, inside which an elevator would go up and down every now and then.

"Remember where our elevator is." Abi said as I saw the large *3* written on the glass column. "Cause this is the only elevator that goes to our building."

She began walking in a seemingly random direction, and I followed, somewhat shocked that the place was seemed so empty at this time of the day; but I could clearly see at least five more elevator shafts like the one I had been in.

But we eventually reached the outside, and my eyes opened wide as I saw the crowd that was casually walking by the streets; almost none of them seemed human whatsoever.

Among other things, I saw people with wings, scales, fur, tails, ears, gills, feathers, fins... some were more animal than others, there were those who had the lower half an animal, like a satyr, or the whole body, like taurs; even those who had just the head, or were so animal it was actually hard to discern what were their human traits to begin with.

I felt as if someone had just put me in some sort of fairy tale world.

"Quite the shocker isn't it?" Abi whispered as she noticed my shock. "Seems the vaccine had started to be given about a while before ours; though most of the people you see have been here for no more than three or four weeks."

"I thought it'd be some sort of improvised camp in the middle of the mountains." I stated as I was pulled along, not even being allowed to fully take in everything.

As we continued to walk down the street, I looked back at the place I had spent the night, and much to my surprise, I saw a massive building; four towers poked their way out of a central block of concrete, and in every tower, there would be large protuberances of steel, glass and cement that looked like the teeth in something like a tree of gears; what shocked me the most was that they seemed to be rotating slowly. Ah, and did I mention there was a huge *A* painted to the entrance of the place?

"This way." Abi continued, pulling me up hill through the many people. "There's this great place I'd like to show you."

But I was still in shock, as I couldn't quite finish classifying the people around me; at a first glance, I could barely recognize species such as felines, canines, birds and a couple reptiles, but my nose was telling me there were hundreds of others out there who I hadn't even seen.

Within five to ten minutes, we came to an almost screeching halt in front of another large building, this one marked as *D*, it was shaped like a ice-cone placed on the larger end, and with its tip chopped off; only about ten to twelve floors in height.

"D is for the food court." Abigail pointed out. "Here you'll find almost everything you'll need or want when hungry."

"What about B and C?" I wondered.

"Those are the other living quarters." she stated. "They're for the taurs and those who need special environments to survive." she paused for a second as we began to head towards the entrance of the D building. "Like those who can't live out of the water for too long, or that can fly.

For a fraction of a second, I wondered about the people I had already seen, and if there was anyone of them who could actually fly. But I didn't have much time since we entered the building soon after.

It was like some sort of shopping mall on the inside, only much, much better; every shop was actually a restaurant or bar, not one thing was meant for anything other than food; like a temple that had been made solely for the purpose of feeding.

My nose could pick up hundreds... no, thousands of different foods; from cheese, to meat, salad, fruit, fish, beef, turkey... the list went on; and I was vaguely reminded about the cuisines from around the world, since I saw names that were written in anything but English.

Of course, there was a Mc Donald's too.

"The floors are divided for the different food needs." Abi began to explain. "First, second and third are for carnivores; fourth, fifth and sixth for omnivores, and from there up herbivores and special foods."

"Special foods?" I asked.

"Worms, fungi, plankton... things like those." she stated. "Though I've heard there's also a food court near the beach, but I haven't gone there just yet; but let's eat before we talk about going anywhere else."

I nodded in agreement, and an hour of mouth watering food and drinks latter, we were ready to pay the bill.

"Get this, they don't use real money here." Abi stated as she handed the waiter (a guy with dog ears) her card. "Everything here goes by points."

"Points?" I couldn't avoid but ask.

"Your room key is also like a credit card." she began to explain. "In it, you store up points, which you latter can use for things like food or shopping." she grinned broadly. "If you're under nineteen, you start off with three hundred points, but you earn more by getting good grades or taking extra classes." she sighed as she shook her head. "You also earn points if you have a job or something of the like."

"What happens if you run out of points?" I couldn't avoid but wonder.

"Dunno." she shook her head. "For what I heard, you're sent to building K and get a speech about hard work and good behavior, and then you're forced to get a job or loose everything you've bought so far." she paused as she looked at the roof for a second. "That reminds me, for what I heard, misbehavior also makes you loose points, though I haven't seen anyone dressed like a policeman since I got here."

"Sounds like an interesting deal." I stated. "But are we actually forced to go to class?"

"Yep." she sighed. "And we can even study university level were we to want it..." she shook her head. "Though I'm glad we're given ten days to adapt to this place before we have to start going to classes."

"So... where to now?" I wondered as I stared at her, asking myself why she had that devious grin on her face.

"Building H." she stated with her mischievous grin. "The entertainment compound."
I had planned to put a BS one instead of this one... oh well, I guess it'll have to do.

More to come tomorrow
